COMO Uma Punakha

COMO Uma Punakha is a small (10 rooms) luxury lodge on the outskirts of Punakha. It is part of a small Singaporean chain (with 16 hotels worldwide).

The service was excellent. When we returned from a hike, an employee offered to clean our muddy hiking shoes, and did a great job of it, at no additional charge.

The food was excellent (especially the pancakes, see photo). We stayed at 3 luxury lodges in Bhutan, and they all had very good food, but the food at COMO Uma Punakha was the best of the three. The menu included Bhutanese, Indian, and Western options, all of which were good.

The view from the room was amazing (see photo), with large windows offering views of the river and the valley.

The room was large and modern, with a very comfortable bed, a shower with strong pressure, and fast, reliable wifi.

Had a cosy 2 night stay here recently. Gr8 location out of the main town, lovely amazing scenic views , gd food. The famed signature Como Shambhala spa treatment was strictly average & a disappointment though . Our butler Sonam was the real game changer here. An old industry hand - a past master at handling everything frm laundry to food to everything else one can imagine . This truly makes him a Gr8 asset & sincerely hope he is appreciated & rewarded enough for this !!

Couldn’t have been more pleased with my 2 night stay here. The hotel is beautiful and it is located amongst some spectacular landscapes which you can enjoy from the main space, restaurant and the rooms that have windows overlooking the river or rice fields. The decoration of the entire property is elegant and flawless. The rooms and bathrooms are luxurious comfortable and spacious. I stayed at #11 and could hear and see the river from the balcony. I also had the pleasure of getting a spa and was delighted. The fact that they don’t have more than 15 rooms makes it a more cozy experience, furthermore the staff is beyond attentive and they do go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. The manager was worthy of mentioning as well, but in all honesty every detail was considered and delivered.
My stay happened to be during Christmas and being in a Buddhist country I had almost forgotten about the holiday until I arrived at the hotel, they had their staff sing carols and some local songs, a Santa handing out candy canes and in the morning they had placed stocking on each guest’s room and had left cookies and treats. So thoughtful and it was truly appreciated. On the evening of the 25th they also arranged for farmers who live nearby to come and perform some local dances and songs, and it was quite special to witness this as well.
So I would 100% return, and can recommend to anyone who can afford it. Wish I could have stayed at their property in Paro; but that leaves me something to look forward to for my next trip to Bhutan.

Amazing property overlooking a river valley. You can hear the river roaring - and this was in winter when the level is low - imagine what it would be like in summer when it's full! The food and service are top notch. They have both Bhutanese as well as European options. We tried our hand at archery (national sport of Bhutan) and a local version of darts as well. Our room has a small terrace overlooking the river where we have our morning coffee and watch the sun light up the valley. Breakfast can be had indoors or outdoors - we opted for the latter and even experienced a brief flurry of snow from a passing cloud! The staff are most courteous and helpful. The rooms are well appointed with excellent heating - even the toilets. Unfortunately on the last night our dinner was marred by a large loud group with children. We had to move our dinner to the lobby where somemof the group followed!

Como was the first hotel my husband and I stayed at on our honeymoon in Bhutan earlier this year and it was a wonderful start to our trip. It had stunning views, great food, and fun activities on site like archery which we took advantage of. The staff were attentive and we had a very peaceful stay at this beautiful hotel.
