Tucked away just off the main street, The Book Cafe offers a unique escape in the heart of Paro, Bhutan. As the first book cafe in the valley, it combines the charm of a quiet reading nook with the warmth of a family-run eatery. Guests are greeted by the friendliest owner—who speaks perfect English—and a menu built around home-cooked meals prepared fresh daily. From hearty local dishes to a selection of local beers and alcohol, every bite and sip reflects authentic Bhutanese flavors.
The cafe’s ambiance is truly inspiring: large windows frame spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, making it a perfect spot to linger with a book or simply soak in the serene atmosphere. While the bookshelves are still growing, the concept has already won hearts. Travelers praise the fresh, flavorful food and the welcoming vibe, though some note it leans more toward a cozy restaurant than a traditional library cafe. Still, for those seeking a relaxing meal in a setting that feels both cultured and comfortable, this is a must-visit. Whether you’re looking to try local delicacies or just want a quiet place to unwind, The Book Cafe delivers an experience that’s as genuine as it is delightful.

1 year agoIt is a nice restaurant. Staff is good and food was great!! It doesn’t give exactly book cafe vibe from reading book perspective but a nice place to sit around and enjoy the food.

7 months agoIt's a good cozy restaurant. The food was delish but then it was salty, had to gulp a gallon of water the whole day. The staff was kind and not rude. However, the front desk staff was always lost somewhere other than the front desk. So, had to look for them over again when service was needed.

So impressed by the first book cafe in Paro.
So well set up, the ambience is great and view of mountains from the cafe is Awe inspiring.
The book shelf is waiting for more books and perhaps the cafe needs few more shelves... growth can always happen... just love that fact that it has begun already.
