Folk Heritage Restaurant was honestly a disappointing experience during our visit to Thimphu. The restaurant may appeal to travelers wanting a basic traditional setup, but for Indian visitors expecting flavorful food and a memorable dining experience, it may not feel worth the price at all. The overall ambiance and décor were quite ordinary and lacked the charm or appeal that was expected from a place carrying such a cultural name.

While the staff members were humble, polite, and friendly throughout the visit, the food itself was extremely average and failed to impress in terms of taste, quality, and presentation. The dishes lacked flavor and did not justify the high pricing. Overall, it felt more like a tourist-oriented place rather than a genuinely satisfying dining experience. Unfortunately, the meal turned out to be a waste of appetite and expectations despite the courteous hospitality from the staff.

Unlike highly choreographed tourist spots, this museum feels incredibly authentic. Housed in a beautifully restored, three-story timber and rammed-earth farmhouse from the 19th century, it instantly transports you back to what rural Bhutanese life looked like generations ago.Stepping inside, the attention to historical detail is remarkable, making it a truly immersive experience.
For Authentic Bhutanese cuisine this is the place to be, try thier set Lunch while seating on low mattresses. Highly recommended.

Delicious set group lunch at the Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant. A group of 5 of us dined here as part of our package deal trip so we didn't pay for the lunch directly. The dishes were all traditional tasty. The Ema Datshi was probably the best we had in Bhutan. The chili with cheese was amazing. They asked if we wanted pork or chicken. They even cooked me up an omelette as I was eating vegetarian. The buckwheat pancakes were also a treat. We all filled up here before making our way across to the museum after lunch.

One upscale restaurant in Thimphu that is designed to let customers experience ancient Bhutanese household culture and tradition.

The staff are very friendly and cordial. They welcome every customer with a cup of suja (butter-tea) with zaaw or a palang of ara (local wine).

All items in the menu are traditional Bhutanese cuisines, which we don't see in almost all restaurants in Bhutan.

The interior designs are also so appealing and give us a feeling of being in a house of ancient Bhutanese elite.

But the prices aren't low as per local standard. If we go in a group, it becomes reasonable. Experience Bhutanese traditional household dining at Folk Heritage Museum Restaurant in Thimphu.

Tasty food with wide variety of traditional menu, from buckwheat pancakes, Ema dashi, kewa dashi, chicken paa and pork. We went there in evening. The ambience was spectacular. If somebody is staying in thimpu for two days then one should definitely visit here once. Heard it's managed by queen mother of Bhutan
